ALSIB – When Americans and Russians Flew Together in Fairbanks, Alaska
A forgotten chapter of World War II history in Alaska
During World War II, this land was part of the Alaska-Siberia Air Route (ALSIB), where American and Soviet pilots worked together to deliver aircraft from Alaska into Siberia.
“If you are standing in Fairbanks today, you are standing on that history.”
From Ladd Field—now Fort Wainwright—American pilots ferried aircraft to Alaska, where Soviet pilots took them onward across Siberia to the Eastern Front in the fight against Nazi Germany.
In a time of global conflict, two nations set aside their differences to face a greater threat together.
“Before we judge one another, we should remember: here, we once stood together.”
